Communication groups are the core of YDAC's programs. For this reason, clients must be able to benefit from a group program.
Most of the clients at our centre have aphasia and are survivors of stroke or head injury. Many clients have other communication disorders such as dysarthria or apraxia. Many clients have multiple communication disorders.
Our communication programs are designed for adults. Therefore, clients must be a minimum of 18 years of age. The typical age range is from the early 30's to late 80's. The average age is from the late 50's to early 60's.
The ratio of men to women varies, depending on the program site, but, often, there are a few more men than women.
The multi-cultural composition of our clients reflects the communities we serve in York and Durham regions. Our client population tends to mirror the population bordering each program site.
