The York-Durham Aphasia Centre volunteers are a diverse group of individuals who help people with aphasia to find new & creative ways of communicating with their family and friends. They assist in developing activities & skills that do not emphasize speech alone, but a variety of different communication strategies.
Volunteers represent the world outside. They have varied interests, different personal styles, diverse occupations, assorted ethnic backgrounds, and many reasons for volunteering. They are retirees, teachers, artists, students, …but all volunteer because they want to be there… not because they have to!
