1. Take the first step
If you are interested in learning more about YDAC volunteer opportunities, please contact the YDAC Volunteer Co-ordinator at:
Phone number: 905-642-2053 or toll free at 1-866-580-9322
e-mail: volunteer@ydac.on.ca
The volunteer co-ordinator will answer your preliminary questions about YDAC and aphasia and point you toward other resources. We will explain the volunteering roles that are currently available and how volunteers are trained. We will also ask you a bit about yourself, your background, your volunteer preferences and your commitment time-frame (a commitment period is required).
2. Try us out
After you have learned a bit about us (and vice-versa) we will ask you to visit us so that we have an opportunity to meet you face to face and share more information. If you are interested in a volunteer role in one of our programs, we will invite you to join us for a visit to a program. You will be at the program for about 4 hours interacting with clients, staff and volunteers in a typical program setting. During your visit, we will jointly have an opportunity to evaluate whether this volunteering opportunity is right for you.
3. Fill out the Application (click here to download)
The next step is to apply for the volunteer role. At this point, we will ask you to complete the volunteer application form, which you can download from this website. Note that it includes a confidentiality clause as well as a request for two references. In addition, there may be other steps or forms required for volunteering at certain sites. The volunteer co-ordinator will guide you through the whole process.
